Greeting football fans and welcome to another
year of exciting Desert Mountain Football! We are
very excited to get the 2010 campaign kicked off
and moving forward at all 3 levels. My goal, since
coming to Desert Mountain, has been to build a higher
caliber of football and a solid program.
Last season (2009) was a breakthrough
year for Desert Mountain football establishing many
firsts in the history of the football program. We
won more games in a season than ever before (9),
advanced to the playoffs for only the second time
in school history, won 2 playoff games and advanced
to the state semi-finals before losing to the eventual
state champion. I very much want to thank the senior
class of 2010. They were the first class to go through
the football program for 4 years and helped to put
Desert Mountain Football on the map. This level
of commitment raised the bar for what is expected
of future teams and brought the program to a whole
new level. After raising the program to new heights
in 2009, the goal in the off season has been to
keep the bar at the new level and continue to move
forward with a “championship program.”
We welcome back 24 seniors and the
rest of the underclassmen who will strive to continue
the success we have achieved. This group has now
seen what it takes to play at a higher level and
they have worked very hard in the off season to
maintain and push on at this level.
Each year we try to add things to the program that
make it attractive to players, fans, administration
and the community at large. During the off-season
new sod was put down on the game field and new water
machines added for all 3 levels. These additions
complement our new field house added 2 years ago
and our scoreboard with 25 second clocks added last
season.
This will be our 2nd season of a two
year block competing in the Desert Valley Region
in Division 5A-II. Our region was the only one last
year where all 6 teams made the playoffs. The state
Champion also came from our region. Our region is
composed of Chaparral, Horizon, North Canyon, St.
Mary’s and Pinnacle. Each team will be very
competitive again this season which should make
for exciting football, to say the least.
I am very proud of the commitment
of each young man in our program in getting ready
for the 2010 campaign. Last year’s motto was
“turning the corner” and we accomplished
that goal. This year’s teams look to build
on that success and keep us at a championship level.
Thank you again for your support. Let’s have
an exciting year of Desert Mountain Football!
