Head
Coach - Tony Tabor

Coach Tabor
Coach Tony Tabor has 15 years
of football coaching experience, including two
years as head football coach at DMHS and has been
part of four Arizona,State championship staffs.
Coach Tabor graduated from Southwest Missouri
State University in Springfield, Missouri, in
1992, where he was a standout defensive lineman.
He was a three-year letterman playing high school
football in Perkins, Oklahoma. Coach Tabor coached
at Westmoore High School (in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma),
Deer Valley High School and Goldwater High School
before joining the football staff at Chaparral
High School in 1999. At Chaparral, he was a part
of three state championships (’99, “00
& ’02) as well as a 28-game winning
streak. Coach Tabor moved to North Canyon High
School in 2005 and was part of a 14-0 5A Division
II state championship. Coach Tabor was part of
the combined record of 83-10 and four state championships
by Chaparral and North Canyon while he was an
assistant coach with those schools. Coach Tabor
became the head football coach at Desert Mountain
in February 2006. After two years of steady improvement
in Desert Mountain’s football program, Coach
Tabor enters his third season with excitement
and high hopes for the team this fall. |

Offensive
Coordinator- Greg Davis Coach
Greg Davis is entering his second year as an assistant
coach at DMHS and his first season as the varsity
Offensive Coordinator. Coach Davis was a four-year
starter at quarterback at Scottsdale Christian
Academy (SCA) and was twice named All-State at
that position. He received his B.S. degree in
Physical Education from Grand Canyon University
in 1999. Before joining the DMHS staff, Coach
Davis was co-offensive coordinator at SCA, defensive
coordinator at Cactus Shadows High School and
head football coach at Mayer High School in Mayer,
Arizona, where he led the team to the Division
2A state play-offs in two consecutive years. Coach
Davis was selected to be the 1A-2A Arizona Coaches
Association All-Star Game head coach in 2005.
He has also been a varsity head coach in baseball,
basketball and track and is AIA certified in character
education. |

Defensive
Coordinator- Jerry Rhoades
Coach Jerry Rhoades is entering
his third year as Defensive Coordinator for
the DMHS varsity and his 18th year of coaching
football overall. Before joining the DMHS coaching
staff, Coach Rhoades was Head Football Coach
for three years at Payson High School in Payson,
Arizona, where he led the team to a regional
championship. Coach Rhoades was a four-sport
letterman at Hayden High School. He attended
Eastern Arizona College, where he lettered in
two sports, including football, before attending
Northern Arizona University. Coach Rhoades has
a Masters degree from NAU and teaches Physical
Education at Cheyenne Middle School. |

Assistant Coach- Graham Ellison
Coach Graham Ellison
is in his second year as the DMHS offensive line
coach. Coach Ellison graduated from Mountain View
High School in Tucson, where he was a captain
of the football team and started on both offense
at guard and defense at defensive end. He also
wrestled and ran track. Coach Ellison played football
at Arizona Western College, where he was an outside
linebacker. Coach Ellison has thirteen years of
high school coaching experience at the freshman,
junior varsity and varsity levels, including serving
as an assistant coach on two state championship
teams at Mountain View and Cactus Shadows High
Schools. Coach Ellison was also chosen as an Arizona
all star coach to take a group of Arizona football
players to Australia to play an Australian national
team. Coach Ellison has a Masters of Education
degree in Counseling and is a Special Education
teacher at DMHS. He also coaches junior varsity
wrestling at DMHS. |

Assistant
Coach- Steven Spade
Coach Steve Spade
is the varsity defensive backs coach. A Scottsdale
native and graduate of Chaparral High School,
Coach Spade coached freshman boys’ basketball
with Coach Tabor at Chaparral before coming
to DMHS with Coach Tabor to start his football
coaching career. A three-sport letterman at
Chaparral, he excelled in football, basketball
and track & field. He is currently attending
Scottsdale Community College. |

Assistant
Coach- Chris Stavroff Coach
Chris Stavroff is in his second year as the varsity
kicking and special teams coach for DMHS. Coach
Stavroff earned his Bachelor of Science degree
from Indiana University where he was a place kicker
on the Hoosiers football team. After graduation,
he built a successful career as in healthcare
sales and marketing and also was the founder and
president of a company that owned and operated
several successful restaurants in Columbus, Ohio.
After selling his company in 2004, Coach Stavroff
and his family moved to Scottsdale. In addition
to his coaching duties at DMHS, Coach Stavroff
recently helped form an international company
that establishes business projects between southeastern
Europe and the United States. |

Coach- Lyall Harrison
Coach
Lyall Harrison is the varsity running backs coach.
He graduated in 2005 from Chaparral High School,
where he played football and ran track & field.
He was an assistant coach for the Chaparral freshman
football team before coming to Desert Mountain
High School with Coach Tabor. He presently is
studying filmmaking at Scottsdale Community College,
where he also is playing football and is the starting
free-safety on the SCC team. |

Coach-David Gonzales

Coach Gonzales
Coach David Gonzales is in
his second year as Head Coach for the DMHS Junior
Varsity football team and has served on the
DMHS football coaching staff for seven years.
Coach Gonzales is on the full-time faculty at
DMHS, teaching AP History and American/Arizona
History, and coaches several other sports. |

Assistant Coach- Mat Grella
Coach
Mat Grella is entering his third year of coaching
at DMHS. A native New Yorker, Coach Grella attended
high school at Patchogue-Medford High School in
Medford, New York, where he earned seven varsity
letters in football and track & field and
won all-county honors in shot-put and discus.
After suffering a season-ending injury his senior
year in high school, Coach Grella became the assistant
linebacker coach for his school team and helped
the team win the state’s first-ever back-to-back
Long Island Class I championships. |

Coach- Norman Williams
Norman
Williams been coaching for 13 years, his first
at DM. He coached in New Jersey mostly for pop
warner. He has been Defensive Coordinator, Offensive
Coordinator, and Special Teams
Head Coach for an organization called the Cramer
Hill Rockies. Also during that time he was Vice-president
of the same organization. Coach Williams was
also a Freshman Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator
for a school called Woodrow Wilson Tigers in
Camden, New Jersey. the last two years he has
been coaching with Vance Miller as the Defensive
Coordinator and Quarterbacks coach. Williams
is married with 4 children 3 boys and 1 girl
and they live in Mesa. |

Coach- Vance Miller
Vance
Miller joined the DMHS coaching staff in early
2008 and is in his first season as an assistant
coach with the Junior Varsity. Coach Miller has
eight years of football playing experience, including
high school, and two years of semi-pro football
with the Arizona Football League (AZFL). An Arizona
native, Coach Miller graduated from Saguaro High
School in 1994, where he was the starting Center
on the Saguaro football team. He also starred
in soccer, track and wrestling at Saguaro. After
graduating from Saguaro, he continued his football
playing career as a Linebacker/Fullback in the
AZFL. Coach Miller also served the Defensive Coordinator
and Line Coach for the Saguaro freshman team for
one year, and he was a head coach for several
seasons in the Scottsdale Pop Warner league. Coach
Miller currently is attending Arizona State University,
where he is earning a bachelors degree in Physical
Education.

Head Coach- Chris Fredericks

Coach Fredricks
Coach Chris Fredericks is now in his
sixth year as Head Coach for the DMHS Freshman
Football Team. Coach Fredericks also has served
as the Head Wrestling Coach for DMSH for eleven
years. Coach Fredericks graduated from the University
of Northern Iowa, where he played football for
two years. He received a Masters in Business
Administration from the Keller Graduate School
of Management. Coach Fredericks is a full-time
on-campus teacher at DMHS, where he teaches
U.S. and Arizona history. |

Assistant
Coach- Paul Wimmer Coach
Paul Wimmer has eight years football coaching
experience and is entering his second year as
an assistant coach for the DMHS freshman football
team. A native of Wisconsin, Coach Wimmer played
linebacker in high school, where he earned All-Region,
All-Conference, All-Area and Honorable Mention
All-State honors. Coach Wimmer played linebacker
for two years at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh,
before moving to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee,
where he received his B.A. degree in Criminal
Justice. Coach Wimmer later earned a Masters degree
in Sociology from DePaul University. Before coming
to DMHS in 2000, Coach Wimmer coached junior varsity
and freshman football at Brookfield East High
School (Brookfield, Wisconsin) and North Canyon
High School. A full-time on-campus teacher at
DMHS, Coach Wimmer also serves as Chair of the
school’s Social Studies Department. |

Assistant Coach- Vince Rio
Coach
Vince Rio is in his second season as freshmen
offensive line coach at DMHS. Coach Rio graduated
from DMHS in 2006, where he was a three-year
letterman in football and earned All Desert
Valley Region honors as a senior. Coach Rio
played football at Lewis & Clark College
in Portland, Oregon during 2006-2007, where
he started at Left Guard before returning to
Arizona. Coach Rio is currently attending Scottsdale
Community College and plans to attend ASU and
major in Business Finance or Management.

Coach
Kirk Williams has eight years football coaching
experience, including serving as an assistant
coach for the DMHS freshman team for the last
two years.
