Tony Tabor
Head Coach
|
|
Coach Tony Tabor enters his
19th season of coaching football and his 6th
season as the Head Football Coach at Desert
Mountain High School. He has been a part of
four Arizona State championship staffs. Coach
Tabor graduated from Southwest Missouri State
University in Springfield, Missouri, in 1992
with a degree in Marketing/ Management. He played
Fullback and Nose Guard on two Gateway Conference
Championship teams. He was a three year letterman
playing high school football in Perkins, Oklahoma.
Coach Tabor coached at Southwest Missouri State,
Westmoore High School (in Oklahoma City, Ok),
Deer Valley High School and Goldwater High School
before joining the football staff at Chaparral
High School in 1999. At Chaparral, he was part
of three state championships (“99, 00
& 02”) as well as a 28-game winning
streak. Coach Tabor moved to North Canyon High
School in 2005 and was part of a 14-0 5A Division
2 state championship. Coach Tabor was part of
the combined record of 83-10 and four state
championships by Chaparral and North Canyon
while he was an Assistant Coach with those schools.
Coach Tabor became the Head Football Coach at
Desert Mountain in February 2006. After 3 season
of steady improvement, 2009 was a breakout season.
The 2009 team went 9-4 and advanced to the state
semi-finals before losing to the eventual state
champion. The 2009 team set school records in
number of wins for a season (9), play-off wins
(2), and advancement in the state play-offs
(3rd round).

Kory
Duran
Offensive Coordinator |
This
is Coach Duran's 3rd year coaching at DMHS and
his 1st year serving as Varsity Offensive Coordinator.
He attended and played football at St. Mary's
high school here in Phoenix, winning a State
Championship in 1991. He started coaching football
in 1998 and has had success in every program
he has had the opportunity to be involved with.
He is extremely excited to be part of the coaching
staff here at Desert Mountain, and is looking
forward to a successful season. |
Jerry Rhoades
Defensive Coordinator |
Coach
Jerry Rhoades is entering his 6th year as Defensive
Coordinator for the DMHS varsity and his 20th
year of coaching football overall. Before joining
the DMHS coaching staff, Coach Rhoades was Head
Football Coach for three years at Payson High
School in Payson, Arizona, where he led the team
to a regional championship. Coach Rhoades was
a four-sport letterman at Hayden High School.
He attended Eastern Arizona College, where he
lettered in two sports, including football, before
attending Northern Arizona University. Coach Rhoades
has a Masters degree from University of Phoenix
and teaches Physical Education at Cheyenne Middle
School. In his off time Coach Rhoades spends his
time with his 12 year old daughter |

Kelly Cook
Receivers |
Coach Kelly Cook is in his 2nd
year on the Desert Mountain Football Staff and
will be the passing game coordinator and coach
the wide receivers and tight ends. Kelly brings
with him both playing and coaching experience
at the college level with him to Desert Mountain.
He played QB & WR at the University of Nebraska
competing in two BCS Bowls, one conference championship,
and one National championship. He then served
as a graduate assistance coach on the offensive
side of the ball at the University of Nebraska
and on the defensive side of the ball at the University
of Mississippi (Ole Miss). Kelly then moved to
the Phoenix, AZ area and has been involved coaching
youth & high school football since. Kelly
currently has a real estate team that focuses
on representing clients in the purchasing and
selling of residential real estate throughout
the Phoenix area. |

Derek Barnett
Linebackers |
Born and raised in Oklahoma,
"Coach B" was a 4-year Varsity Letterman
in Football, Basketball, Powerlifting, Track,
and the Academic Competition Team at Waukomis
High School. He was voted Team Captain his senior
year and was a 2-time Academic Team Captain.
He attended his Oklahoma State University, earning
a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education
with minor endorsements in secondary social
studies. His teaching and coaching career officially
began in 1999 and after 4 years in Oklahoma
as an Offensive Coordinator, Head Wrestling,
Track, and JH Basketball Coach, he moved to
The Valley in 2003 and worked in classified
capacities at DMHS for 2 years before moving
on to teach at Saguaro for 6. Coach B's stops
in Arizona have been as 2004 DMHS JV Head Football,
2005 JV Defensive Coordinator/Varsity LB at
Saguaro, 2005-2007 Saguaro Head Wrestling, 2007-2009
Saguaro Track Sprint Coach, 2009 PVHS Varsity
LB, and 2010 Goldwater Freshmen Defensive Coordinator.
Coach B is also on the DMHS Faculty as a history
teacher.

Chris Stavroff
Kicking |
Coach Chris Stavroff is in his
5th year as the Varsity Kicking and Special Teams
coach for DMHS. Coach Stavroff earned his Bachelor
of Science degree from Indiana University where
he was a walk-on place kicker on the Hoosiers
football team. After graduation, he built a successful
career as in commercial real estate and also co-founded
a company that owned and operated several successful
restaurants in Columbus, Ohio. After selling his
company in 2004, Coach Stavroff and his family
moved to Scottsdale. |

Shawn Seaman
Quarterbacks
|
This is Coach Seaman’s first
year at DMHS. Coach Seaman was a high school standout
in wrestling and track in Indiana. He graduated
from Purdue University in 1984 with a Bachelor
of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, and
earned a Master of Science Degree in Electrical
Engineering in 1990. Coach Seaman started coaching
youth sports (football, basketball, and track)
in 1999. Coach Seaman is the Owner/President of
a business and quality management consulting company.
He is married with 2 children; Drew 18 and Nicole
14. |

Jon Saltzman
Running Backs and Video Coordinator

Coach Jon Saltzman is in his 3rd
year with Desert Mountain High School. This year
his emphasis will be coaching the running backs
along with being the Video Coordinator. Coach
Saltzman grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where
he attended Parkway Central High School, lettering
in Varsity football for 2 years. He was also a
district champion in Varsity wrestling his freshman
and sophomore years while serving as captain during
his sophomore and junior years, earning 3 Varsity
letters. However, injury prevented him from competing
in Districts his junior year and kept him from
wrestling his entire senior season. Coach Saltzman
earned a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education
from Arizona State University. Currently Coach
Saltzman owns his own very successful landscaping
company |

Cal Newman
Receivers,
Defensive Backs
and Special Teams |
Coach
Cal Newman is in his first season as the JV Defensive
Backs Coach and Special Teams Coordinator. Coach
Newman was born and raised in Phoenix. He played
two years in the East Valley Pop Warner league
starting at age 13. Coach Newman graduated from
Arcadia High School in 1993. He was a 2 year letterman
playing as RB/ LB/ SS. He attended Scottsdale
Community College and played two years as a DB
and on special teams. Coach Newman graduated from
SCC with an AAS in 1998. He is a certified personal
fitness trainer working for Core Concepts at Mountianside
Fitness Platinum. He is also a certified EMTB
and previously worked for 6 years at a private
ambulance company and Ak-Chin/Maricopa fire Department.

Chris Fredericks
Head
Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks,

Coach
Chris Fredericks is now in his 11th year of
coaching DMHS Freshman Football and his 7th
year as Head Coach. Coach Fredericks has also
served as the Head Wrestling Coach for DMHS
for the past 14 years. Coach Fredericks graduated
from the University of Northern Iowa, where
he played football for two years. He received
a Masters in Business Administration from the
Keller Graduate School of Management. Coach
Fredericks is a full-time on-campus teacher
at DMHS, where he teaches U.S. and Arizona history |

Jeff Harper
Defensive
Coordinator, Linebacker and Running Backs

Coach Harper is a Scottsdale
native and a 1980 graduate of Chaparral High where
he was the 1979 Scottsdale Progress Player of
the Year. Coach Harper graduated from Colorado
State University with a B.S. in Horticulture in
1985. While at C.S.U. Coach Harper was a four
year starter and earned Honorable mention All-American,
and All-Conference honors as a Middle Linebacker
for the Ram's in 1982, 83. Coach Harper also played
professionally for the Denver Gold, and the Hamilton
Tiger Cats in the U.S.F.L. and the C.F.L. This
will be coach Harper's third year on the Desert
Mountain coaching staff. Aside from his coaching
duties coach Harper owns and operates Harper's
Nursery in Scottsdale, and Mesa. |

Vince Rio, Jr.
Offensive and
Defensive Line
|
Coach
Vince Rio is in his fourth season as Freshmen
Offensive Line Coach at DMHS. Coach Rio graduated
from DMHS in 2006, where he was a three-year letterman
in football and earned All Desert Valley Region
honors as a senior. Coach Rio played football
at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon
during 2006-2007, where he started at Left Guard
before returning to Arizona. Coach Rio is currently
attending Scottsdale Community College and plans
to attend ASU and major in Business Finance or
Management. |

Tim Schaefer
Offensive and
Defensive Line |
Coach Schaefer
is in his first season as a Freshmen Assistant
at DMHS and brings with him experience that
spans more than 20 years from Pop Warner to
Semi-Professional football Most recently he
was a member of the staff on the 2011 NYS Wolves
that finished unbeaten and State Champions as
well as serving on the staff of the 2010 Semi-Pro
National Champion Glendale Bulldogs. Coach Schaefer’s
Scottsdale Rustlers reached the State Semi-Finals
of Pop Warner in 2010. Tim Schaefer grew up
in Minnesota and was a 3-time letter winner
in football, basketball and track at West Concord
High School and a 2- time All-Conference and
All-State selection in football. In 1985 he
was chosen as the Defensive Rookie of the Year
at Iowa playing Defensive End. Coach Schaefer
is excited to be a part of the tradition of
success that is building with the Desert Mountain
football program.

Chris Parries
Wide Receivers and Defensive Backs |
Coach Parries is entering his first
season as freshmen Wide Receivers & Defensive
Backs Coach at DMHS. He is from Minnesota where
he participated in a range of high school athletics
including track-n-field, basketball, and football.
Since moving to the Valley in 2001, he has worked
as a Football and Basketball Referee, as well
as volunteering in numerous sports clubs. He owns
and operates Arizona Executive Transportation,
Inc., a private car service. |

Natasha Anderson Athletic Trainer |
Natasha Anderson has been a certified
athletic trainer for the past 8 years. She graduated
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Medicine
and Athletic Training from Missouri State University
in 2003. She then practiced as an athletic trainer
in both the clinical and high school settings
in Springfield, Missouri until May of 2009. Before
becoming the Head Athletic Trainer at Desert Mountain
last February, she worked as an athletic trainer
for a high school in West Valley. She is currently
finishing her Master of Science degree in Health
Promotion and Wellness Management. Her clinical
specialties include biomechanics of the foot and
ankle, and the treatment of low back pain. She
also has a particular interest in the recognition
& management of concussions, specifically
in the high school athletic population. In her
spare time, Natasha enjoys spending time with
her husband, Barton.

Don
Equipment Manager
|
This is Don Durocher's 5th year
as Equipment Manager at DMHS. He spent 2 years
as a Student Assistant while in college and 3
years at Saguaro High School before coming over
the DMHS. |
